Danger River (book review)

This is the third book in a series about two missionary children, Caleb and Anna, and their parents by Byran Webb. Bryan has been a missionary for many years in the Oceanic Pacific regions. He writes stories about children going on mission’s trips for children.

Their journey this time takes them deep into the Amazon rain forest in Peru. The culture that they encounter is very different from anything that they have experienced in their life up to this point. The mission purpose was to build a church for the people to worship in.

One of the funny things that occur to them is learning that the people use the river for bathing, swimming and going to the bathroom in. The local people cannot understand why they would build an outhouse, when the river is right there and takes no work.

Caleb learns through choices made that it is important to obey orders no matter how crazy they appear to be. In the process of learning to obey, there are people who come to know Jesus as their Savior and the church gets built.

In order to best understand everything in this book, it is wise to read the first two books in the series, which I have written reviews on. They often refer back to their previous trips and experiences.

Although this book is written for children, I highly recommend adults to read it also. It is a simple and short read but will challenge one in being willing to obey God’s commands even when they don’t make sense. It will also stir your heart for missions work locally and around the world.
