Pray For Guatemala

Guatemala is a nation that is filled with extreme violence and war. It has the highest murder rate of the Latin American nations. Youth gangs, drug traffickers, death squads and organized crime are all common throughout the land. The government is often unable to wield enough power to do much.

During the 1970’s there was a great spread of Christianity throughout the land. Nearly a quarter of the nation claims Christian beliefs. Although churches are very common, many mix traditional pagan beliefs with the Christian teachings. This has caused many to backslide and pull away from the church and their belief.

One area that the church can reach is college age children. Around 72% of the population is under the age of thirty. Guatemala City has over 100 colleges filled with students who need to know Jesus.

With all of the violence and crime, many children live alone on the streets. Groups actually travel around to murder these children to cleanse the streets of ‘garbage’. Churches need to find ways to build up and strengthen families and provide for their needs.

Points to pray:
Cleansing of pagan beliefs in churches
Evangelism of the younger age
Building up of family
Control against organized crime and violence
Leadership in the churches
