So when they measured it by omers, he who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack. Every man had gathered according to each one’s need. Exodus 16:18
The desire to have more and more is the focus of most people. In the mind of many, there is no such thing as having too much, falling into extreme greed or pride. For some it is about having more things, while others it is about having planned to have enough for the future use.
God had provided manna for the people to eat. There were to gather a certain amount each day. When measured out correctly everyone had just the right amount needed and nothing extra.
Building up bank and retirement accounts is promoted as a great thing to do. People are focused on providing for themselves to meet all of the needs and desires in the moment and in the future.
Living in this way causes a person to push harder and harder for more and more. There can never be too much. In the process many miss out on really living. The stuff that they have breaks down, is stolen or is no longer of value.
Rather than be greedy or worried about the future, believers are to trust God for their daily need. Each day God is able to provide exactly what is needed, no more and no less. This removes the temptation to be greedy or filled with pride in self’s ability to provide.
Believers need to focus their lives more on being His witness and building His kingdom, rather than gathering more than is needed for that day. As the believer does God’s work, God will provide exactly what is needed to keep moving forward in every area of life, no more and no less.
Each day you have needs that God is able to provide. Do not allow yourself to worry about tomorrow and gather too much. Put all of your trust in God that He will supply what you need for each day. Then put your focus on being His witness and building His kingdom. God is faithful and will never fail to take care of you as you put your life in His hands. Just as it was with the Israelites, you will not have too much or too little, just the right amount needed to keep moving forward on the journey God has you on.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will see God provide for all of your needs; that you will not be greedy for more than is needed; and that God will give you strength to do what is needed to be done each day.
