And Moses said to the people: “Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out of this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten.” Exodus 13:3
Moving out of a place where one has lived for a long time can have either great or poor memories. Some had a very good life where they were and did not really want to live there. Others had many very bad experiences and struggle remembering the place. They are thrilled to leave that bad place.
As the Israelites left Egypt, Moses told them to remember that day and how God led them out by His hand. He also told them to not eat any leavened bread on that day in remembrance to the sudden fleeing Egypt.
Remembering something can be with either good or bad. The difference is found in what one’s experiences were like. Painful experiences are difficult to remember, while victories are always great to remember.
Yet, many people forget about victories that they have had. They are focused only upon the here and now. All that is in their vision is their current struggles, forgetting what they have already come through in the past.
Living for God will often bring on some difficult struggles one must go through. Many forget where God brought them from. Instead of focusing on the immediate pain, one must remember where God brought them from.
Upon belief in Jesus, God brings one out of the bondage to sin and death. Doors to life are opened while the doors to death are closed. A new life is given that will never end. Remembering where God brought one from will give strength to keep moving forward to where God plans to bring the person.
You will have difficult times in your life. It will be easy to want to go back to a previous time in your life in which you did have that extreme difficulty. Don’t focus on the short moments in life, but focus on where God has you today. Remember where He has brought you from and out of. You now have eternal life and are no longer bound by sin and death that this world offers. Never forget the day that God forgave you of your sin and gave you life abundantly.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will remember where God brought you out of; that you will walk in the path God now has you on; that you will know the abundant life God now has for you; and that you will not go back to the old life God pulled you from.
