Genesis 41:16 Don’t Take The Credit

So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” Genesis 41:16

Taking credit for accomplishing something is what most people are willing to do very quickly. Everyone wants recognition for what they were able to do. People like to be honored for what they did and will rarely hand that honor off to someone else when it appears that they did all the work. Taking the credit makes a person feel good and look good to others, it builds up one’s own ego.

Pharaoh was told Joseph could interpret dreams, so he called for him to interpret a dream he had. Joseph tells Pharaoh that he cannot interpret the dreams, but God can give him the desired answer.

Building up self and one’s own resume of abilities and accomplishments is the goal of the world. Words will be said in a way to make things appear better than what they truly are. Pride sets up in the heart to keep one from passing up the opportunity to build up self and taking credit for everything that is good.

When a person chooses to take credit for things someone else has done deception has taken place. It will only be a matter of time before one will get exposed for the lies when one cannot really do what was said to have been done.

God will often give supernatural abilities to a person to accomplish what is not normal. He is able to give insight into situations that would normally be unknown. As this occurs, the believer needs to be open to giving God the credit for the ability. God is the One who is to be honored and lifted up. He gave the ability, not self. This will point a person to God, not to self.

There will be times God will give you the ability to do something uncommon to you or give you knowledge and wisdom in a special way. On the outside it may look like you did it on your own. The world may try to give you the credit for what was done. Do not deceive others but give God the credit that is due to Him. It is He who created you and gave you all the abilities that you have. Allow God to work through you and then let the world know it was He who did it.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will work through you to touch the lives of others; that God will do supernatural work through you; and that you will give God the credit and honor for the works done.

  1. “Allow God to work through you and then let the world know it was He who did it.” These are great words of wisdom, Tom. We can do nothing without Him, and without Him we are nothing. All the credit goes to Him!
