So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking. Genesis 19:14
Jokes are played on people all the time by other friends, family members, co-workers or others. Often, they are done just to have some fun, not being really serious. When jokes are done on a regular basis, it is difficult to believe someone when the truth is being spoken. The truth can appear to be just another joke or a deception.
God had warned Lot that He was about to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot warns his sons-in-law what was about to happen, but they thought he was joking about it.
Hearing something that is too good or too wild to be true is often believed to be a joke. This type of information is heard on a regular basis in advertisements promoting some product as the best.
In this same way, governments have stated things as being a lot worse or more dangerous than they really were. Expecting extreme damage, nothing happens, and people begin to ignore warnings as just another joke.
For nearly two thousand years the church has been talking about the destruction of the world. Yet, the earth still goes on. People are told that living in sin will bring about a destruction of their lives, yet they still live and nothing appears to occur.
God is giving warning about what sin will do. His day of judgement is coming. One has to make a choice as to whether to believe His word or not.
The majority of the world thinks it is just a joke and will never happen. Just like Lot, they will see God’s word come true some day.
You have heard many things that were jokes or scams, making it difficult to know what is true and what is a false joke. While the world will play jokes on you and try to claim that the words of God are just a joke, you must make a choice as to whether you believe the world or God. His word speaks only the truth and speaks of the coming day of judgement and destruction. Make the choice to believe His word. Believe in Jesus Christ, repent of your sins and be saved from the coming judgement and destruction.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the truth God is speaking; that you will believe God’s word; that God will reveal jokes the world is speaking; and that God will save you from the coming day of judgement.
