Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. Acts 12:5
When someone is in major trouble the world does not know what to do. The world will get angry, especially when the person was a good person, and things were done wrong to that person. Immediately people often seek a lawsuit or some legal action to help the person and will point out good attorneys to talk to. Doing these types of actions only helps in the temporary and does not solve the bigger problem.
Luke records in Acts that Peter was thrown into prison by King Herod. While he was in prison, the church offered up constant prayer to God.
During the times that a person is going through a difficult time, there is only so much that other people can do. Often their hands are tied due to many different circumstances in their own lives, leaving them helpless to be able to help physically.
As people are unable to really help, they will get angry at the situation. Choices will then be made to find a way to get revenge or to avenge the one harmed.
Believers will go through extremely difficult times. In many parts of the world, they will be physically persecuted in many different ways. It would be easy to get angry and seek revenge and fight back physically.
Rather than fighting back physically, believers are to turn to God and seek Him and His favor in constant prayer. This prayer is to be continual without stopping for God to work in the lives of those being persecuted and harmed by the world. God is able to do bigger and better things than any individual can do. He is also in the midst of two or three gathered in His name to pray.
Whether you live in a free country or one that is against Christianity, you probably know of people who are being harmed for believing in Jesus. Physically there may not be much that you can do to help those people. One thing you can do is constantly lift them up in prayer before God. Give God the opportunity to step into the situation and change the situation. He is able to open the prison doors and set people free, but it must be done with prayer.
Who can you pray for today?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to see those being persecuted for their belief in Jesus; that you will be in constant prayer to God for those being harmed by the world; and that God will open prison doors through your prayers.
