You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. John 15:16
Employers in the workplace choose only certain people for a reason. They choose a person who they expect will do the job that is required. It is expected the new hired hand will be able to learn what needs to be done and be productive in making money for the business.
John records Jesus talking to the disciples and saying that He chose them and gave them the job to go out and produce fruit, so that whatever they ask in His Father’s name would be given to them.
There are many people who get a job just for the paycheck. Instead of working to build the company up, they do as little as possible to get what they want. When this occurs, employers will sometimes let the person go because that person is not being fruitful for them.
Actions like this will often occur inside the church. People become believers in Jesus just to be saved and nothing else. They go to church, worship God and even read their bible, but they never go out and be His witness. They do not produce any fruit for God for what He has given them. Without any fruit being produced, the person is dead and worthless.
Believers are to be productive workers for God. Fruit for God begins with a changed life, fleeing sin and living a holy and righteous life. It then goes into being a witness of God to others through word and deed, multiplying what God has done in one’s own personal life.
God has chosen you to follow Him and to bear fruit for Him. Each day you have a choice as to what you will do for God in response to His great love in choosing you. Examine your life and see if you are producing any fruit for God. Is your life changed and becoming more like that of Jesus? Are you being His witness and going out and making disciples of all people? Or do you just sit idle in the salvation He has given you bearing no fruit?
Go out today and bear fruit for God. Do the work God has for you to do.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the work God has for you to do; that you will produce fruit in your own life and in the lives of others for God’s glory; and that God will bless the work you are doing for Him.
