For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. John 3:20
Horror movies nearly always show the violence being done in the dark shadows of night. The monsters or violent people do the work in the dark so that they cannot be seen. It raises the fear factor of those watching, because one cannot always see what is coming up next. Things that are done that should not be done are often done in the same way in real life, in the dark and secret places. John records Jesus telling
Nicodemus that people who practice evil hates the light because light will expose the evil being done.
It is common for most people to think of themselves as overall a good person. Yet, there are very few that will follow Christ, the Light of the world. When they are confronted with Jesus and what He taught, many squirm and walk away and begin to get angry.
Fully looking at the teachings of Jesus will expose the full truth of one’s life. Sin will be revealed for what it really is, evil actions against God and others. It is doing the wrong thing, no matter how good it may appear to be on the surface. The more one walks in sin, the farther in the darkness they will hide from the light of Jesus. No one wants to be exposed.
Believers will flee all sin. They will also be willing to allow the Holy Spirit to expose any sin in their lives through the light of Jesus. Once sin is exposed, one will repent, knowing that there is love and forgiveness found in the Jesus. This is the true Light that all need to know and hear.
How do you see yourself, as a good person or an evil person? Allow yourself to get close to Jesus and be exposed by His light in your life to reveal who you really are. Do not be afraid of being exposed by God’s word but be transformed into a new creation.
God loves you and cares for you, even as He knows all the evil you have done. He is ready and willing to forgive you. Do not stay in the darkness of this world, living in sin and depravity, but live in the Light that gives true life for all eternity.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will allow God’s light to shine into your life; that you will know the forgiveness God offers; that you will flee all sin against God; and that you will not be ashamed of the light of God.
