The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Luke 11:34
Having good vision is one thing that people desire. Getting glasses or some type of surgery to improve one’s vision is common. Being able to see enables a person to do things much more easily. Without good vision one will have many struggles and will usually be slowed down missing out on a lot of experiences.
Luke records how Jesus was talking to the disciples about light, lamps and the eyes. He said that the eye is the lamp of the body and if the eye is good, the body will have light, but if it is bad, the body will be in darkness.
Being blind causes one to have to live in complete darkness. There are many causes as to why one may be blind, but all of them are that the eyes are no longer working correctly. Light is no longer allowed to be seen and the person lives in complete darkness.
Although the eyes may be physically good and with 20/20 vision, they can also at the same time be horribly bad. What a person is willing to look at is the ultimate decision as to whether the eyes are good or bad.
Looking, as the world does, at sin and ways to sin brings in only darkness and death into the heart, mind and soul of a person. Viewing violence, pornography, hatred, abuse and others sins as good is only darkness.
Believers are to have good eyes. They are to view the things of God and bring in His light into their lives. The things of God are light and life, not death.
Each day you are able to able to make choices as to what you look at whether you use glasses or not. Spiritual darkness will be in your life if you choose to look upon sin as good and acceptable as the world does.
Do not allow yourself to look upon sin as good but view the things of God. Have good eyes by filling your eyes with light of God and His word. Be the body of light and life, not the body of death and darkness as the world is and you once were.
How are your eyes today?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will open your eyes to the things of God; that God will strengthen you to turn your eyes from all sin; and that your life will be filled with the light of God shining for all the world to see.
