And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than have two eyes, to be cast into hell fire–Mark 9:47
Vision is something that most people cherish. No one wants to lose their ability to see because it will slow them down and cause them to miss many things. When one’s vision starts to go, many will get glasses or surgery to help be able to see more clearly to do the things desired or needed to be done each day.
Mark records Jesus saying that if a person’s eye causes that person to sin it would be better to take that eye out rather than being cast into hell with two eyes.
While having two eyes can allow a person to do many good things, it can also open the door to doing many things that are sinful. It is with the eyes that a person can begin to see things that leads one into sin. The heart is directly connected to what the eyes can see.
Vision leads one into lust. It can cause one to become greedy. It can open the door to theft or violence, along with many other sinful acts that can be done because one can see with the eyes.
Believers are to take a harsh stand against sin. If anything is causing one to sin, it must be plucked out or removed in some way. One must be willing to do whatever it takes to stop the sin.
Although living with one eye is difficult, it is better to live that way than to live in sin and be cast into hell for eternity.
With having two eyes, you will be able to see many things. Some of those things you will see may tempt you to live in sin against God. Do not allow your eyes to lead you into sinful ways. The sin, your eyes may lead you into, will cause you to be cast into hell to be burned for eternity.
Although you may not physically pluck your eye out, do whatever it takes to keep your eyes from leading you into sin. Put all of your vision on God and His ways, rather than on the ways of sin that is prevalent in this fallen world.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal where your eyes are leading you; that you will repent of all visual sins against God you commit; that God will give you strength and wisdom to flee all sin; and that God will not have to cast you into the lake of fire.
