Matthew 27:39-40 Blaspheming God

And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, “You who destroyed the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” Matthew 27:39-40

When people really do not believe someone, they like to mock the person in various ways. They talk bad about the person and cut the person down, making jokes about the person. This often occurs more when the person is of higher status and is supposed to be an expert in what is being said or done.

Matthew records that as Jesus was hanging on the cross to die, people would pass by blaspheming Him by telling Him that if He can destroy and rebuild the temple quickly that He should get Himself down from the cross.

The world does not believe in God. They look at Him and question all kinds of things about Him and want nothing to do with Him.

Believers, on the other hand, are to believe in God and trust Him in everything. Yet, there have been many believers who have gone through a difficult time, one in which God does not move as they think He should, and they begin to question God and blaspheme Him.

Questioning God’s actions and not trusting them is speaking out against Him. It is testing Him to see if He will fail or will only do what one asks regardless of what He wants and desires.

Instead of doubting and questioning God, believers are to trust Him in every action He does or does not do. They are not to ask Him to prove Himself by getting down from the cross, doing some action that they think He should do. God does not have to prove Himself to people, but He does in His own ways.

As you go through life, there may be times in which you go through some extremely difficult times and God does not appear to care. The world will pressure you to blaspheme God and test Him rather than trust Him. Put your full trust in God when He is on the cross for you and is quiet or not doing what you think He should. Wait until He rises again to pull you through your situation and do not blaspheme Him while waiting for Him to move.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will trust God’s choice to move or be still; that you will not test God to do what is not in His will; and that you will see Jesus raise from the cross and move in your life.
