Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it. Matthew 13:45-46
Everything has a price attached to it. While most things have a dollar amount, there are also many other things that have different types of values that cost time, effort, emotions and more. The value of an item is often determined by how much a person is willing to pay for it. Some things have a very low value, while other things have an extremely high value.
Matthew records Jesus saying what the kingdom of heaven is like. Jesus describes it like someone seeking beautiful pearls. When he finds one of great value, he sells all he has to purchase it.
The world places very high value on things. Cars, homes, land, rare collectibles are just a few of the things that can come with an extremely high dollar amount. The higher the dollar value, the higher the item places one in society.
With the high value, many will do whatever it takes to purchase that item. People will take on second jobs, get second mortgages, sell things or more just to get that one item of high value.
Heaven is something that is available and has an extremely high value to it. With heaven one has eternal life, no sickness, eternity with God and forgiveness of sins. Nothing has greater value. Jesus offers it for free.
As a result, the believer is willing to give up everything to have it. One is willing to give up sin and the temporary, physical things of this world to have more of God and heaven in the end. Having heaven and God brings greater joy that will last for eternity than anything this world can offer.
There are things that you are willing to pay a high price in order to have in this world. While those things may be good, they are also temporary and will go away. God is offering you the perfect life in heaven with Him for all eternity. You can have it with the repentance of all sin. This should also cause you to be willing to give up all the things of the world out of love for what Jesus is giving you.
How much are you willing to pay for eternity with God?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the value of heaven that Jesus offers you; that you will be willing to give up the things of this earth to gain what God is giving you; and that you will live your entire life for God.
