Matthew 8:26 Why Do You Fear?

But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. Matthew 8:26

Throughout the entire world fear is one of the most common feelings that people have. Hundreds of different words describe different types of fear that people can have. Medications have been developed and counselors are sought to help many to deal with their fears yet fear still runs high. People are afraid of what is unknown or unseen.

Matthew records when the disciples were on a boat at sea and there was a great storm occurring, they were afraid for their lives. Jesus asked them why they were afraid and then rebuked the wind and sea and everything became calm.

No one likes to be harmed or really likes the idea of dying. Any time something occurs that threatens one’s life or well-being a person often gets scared. The mind quickly runs to the worst case scenario with fear ramping up to high levels.

All the world has is the here and now. There is no hope for their future or life after death. When death occurs, there is nothing left, it is over, thus the rise of fear when something occurs that threatens one’s life.

Believers have no reason to ever fear. They are to trust God completely in every situation. For the believer, this life is just temporary. The worst thing that can happen is one dies, yet that brings on eternal life and perfect health in the end.

God, who created everything, has complete control of everything in this world. There is nothing that can occur without His permission, so one should never fear but have faith in God and see Him control with the winds and sea in life.

Going through life there will be times things will occur that are out of your control. You will not always be able to see what the final outcome will be. During those times, fear will try to rise up in your heart and mind. Push those fears aside and put your faith in God. Trust that God will work all things out for your good.

Believe the promises of God and that He is actually in control. See God do a great work in your life and help you make it through every situation in life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will trust God in every area of your life; that God will strengthen you to remove all fear; that you will see God do great wonders in your life; and that God will bring peace to your heart in difficult times.
