In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness. Zechariah 13:1
Water is something used to cleanse and refresh. Fountains will spray up water that is consistently clean and new. It can be used by a person get cleansed from all dirt, sweat and filth on the outside of the body. One can also drink some of it to refresh the insides of the body and give revitalized energy to keep going forward.
Zechariah records God saying that there will come a day in which there will be a fountain that shall be opened up for the house of David and the people of Jerusalem to cleanse from sin and all uncleanness.
Very few people like to have a filthy body all the time. Most people, on a regular basis, if not daily, will take a shower or bath to cleanse themselves of all filth on their bodies. While people are quick to cleanse the outside of their bodies, very few are willing to get their insides cleansed.
From the very first moment that a person does something against any of God’s commands, that person has sinned against God. That initial sin has caused that person’s heart to be contaminated with filth that needs to be removed. No person can clean out the filth of sin with one’s own ability, an outside cleansing is needed.
Jesus came to this earth to die upon the cross, shedding His blood to remove all sin from all who believe. His blood has become a fountain that will cleanse and remove all filth from the heart and life of a believer. One needs to put all hope in the blood of Jesus for the remission of sins and the impartation of eternal life.
In the same way that you take time to wash up with physical water to keep yourself clean, you need to be washed by the blood of Jesus. His blood is a fountain that will never run dry and cleanse one from the filthiest of sin that is in the heart and mind of the worst of people. Put your faith in what Jesus did in dying on the cross and shedding His blood for you. This is the fountain that God had foretold would be for the sin and uncleanness.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the work Jesus did on the cross for you; that you will trust in the shed blood of Jesus; and that you will know the forgiveness God provides you through Jesus.
