And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they have pierced. yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. Zechariah 12:10
People often recognize how wrong they had been when someone extends a hand of grace towards them and not punish as harshly as deserved. At that point they often mourn for what they had done wrong and are changed in their heart and mind.
Zechariah records God saying that He will pour out grace upon the house of David and the people of Jerusalem so that they will look upon Him whom they have pierced–Jesus. Then they will mourn and grieve as for Him as though grieving their only son.
The world is always focused upon getting revenge for when a wrong has been done. Full punishment for wrongs is always expected. Not only full punishment, but extended punishment to make one feel they were paid back for the wrong done.
Revenge is then expected. When it does not come, then the heart is changed and recognition of the wrong done is seen. People will then mourn and grieve over the one that they had harmed.
Every person has sinned, and every sin has caused a piercing upon Jesus. The amount of piercing that Jesus has had to face is beyond comprehension. Despite the piercing, Jesus extends grace to everyone and is willing to forgive the wrongs done. He brings life, not death and revenge.
The moment a person recognizes the grace God has given through Jesus, it pierces the heart. It will cause one to mourn and weep over the sins done and cause one to turn from all sin.
As a human, you have sinned against God more times than can be counted. Each and every sin you have done has caused a piercing upon Jesus. It is your sin that had put Jesus upon the cross and pierced His side. Yet, Jesus in His amazing love has chosen to extend His grace towards you and forgive you of all sin.
Realize what Jesus has given you and mourn over the sins you have done. Be willing to repent and turn from all sin and follow Jesus in the grace He has given you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to see how you have pierced Jesus with your sin; that you will see God’s grace given through Jesus; and that you will mourn over your sin against God.
