“In that day,” says the Lord of hosts, “Everyone will invite his neighbor under His vine and under His fig tree.” Zecharia 3:10
When a person has something great happening, that person will often invite many others to be a part of it. Often the invitations are for parties, celebrations, weddings and other great events. People want others to be a part of celebrations so that they can rejoice together or just have fun together. No one wants to celebrate all alone with no one beside them.
Zechariah records God telling Josiah, the high priest, about the coming of the Messiah. He says that once He comes, everyone will invite their neighbors to be under His vine and fig tree.
The world knows how to invite people to things that they see are good. Billions of dollars are spent every year inviting people to be a part of something that is occurring. This can be in person events or events online.
While this may appear to be good, very often the events are things that are dishonoring to God and lead to spiritual death. The focus of the world is on pleasing self in some form or another.
Believers in Jesus have something that they are a part of that gives abundant life and will last for eternity. They are given a reason to live, a purpose in life, even in the midst of struggles and turmoil. That life and purpose is found in Jesus.
He is the vine in which there is truth and life. Forgiveness is given in place of judgement. Abundant life is given in place of death.
Instead of holding that gift to themselves, believers need to invite others to be a part of the vine of Jesus. One must give others a chance to have the abundant life Jesus offers.
You have had times when you have invited others to events or have been invited to events by others. As a believer at some point you were invited to believe in Jesus. God has called you to be His witness. Do not celebrate what Jesus has done for you all by yourself. Do not plan to go to heaven alone.
Invite others to know Jesus and become a part of His vine and family. Go out and invite your neighbors to be forgiven and have eternal life and purpose in Christ Jesus.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the gift you have in Christ Jesus; that God will give you His boldness to be His witness; that you will invite all you know to be a part of God’s family; and that God will draw many to Jesus through you.
