Zephaniah 1:5 Double Worship

Those who worship the host of heaven on the housetops; those who worship and swear oaths by the Lord, but who also swear by Milcom; Zephaniah 1:5

No one really likes someone who has a double standard, one who says or does one thing at one point, then suddenly does the very opposite the next time. In having double standards, it is difficult to know where a person really stands or what that person’s loyalties are. It causes great confusion and chaos, yet there are many who like to hold double standards and feel it is acceptable.

Zephaniah records God saying that He will destroy the land because of those who worship and swear oaths by His name, while at the same time swearing oaths by Milcom.

Although many do not like anyone with double standards, the world often lives in double standards. They claim to follow one set of standards, but then live in the totally opposite standards. The world is quick to say it is wrong to murder, but at the same time will murder the unborn child in the womb.

Living this way has made its way into the church with people who claim to believe in Jesus. There are many in the church who worship God on Sundays, but then on Mondays worship their jobs, social status, money and other things of this world. Many will even claim that all worship in all religions is acceptable to God. God is completely put on a shelf until the next Sunday.

As a result of living this way, God’s judgement is coming against them and their nation. One has to either be sold out to God or sold out to the world. There is no middle ground in worshipping God and a god.

One has to make a choice of worshipping God or worshipping this world. The world is working hard at drawing you into their ways of living and worship. Things and ways of this world can pull at your heart and may look good. Do not allow yourself to be drawn into the double standard of worshipping the gods of this world and God at the same time. In doing so, God will bring His judgement down upon you and kick you out of His kingdom.

Make a choice to worship God alone. Choose to make God the only God in your life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will be the only God in your life; that God will reveal areas of your life that are against Him; that you will worship God alone; and that you will be God’s witness to this world.
