But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him. Habakkuk 2:20
All over the world there are court cases occurring on a regular basis. People are standing before a judge hearing a verdict of whether they are guilty or not in some crime committed. As the verdict is read, the people in the courtroom are required to be silent and listen to what is said. It is no longer a time of argument of innocence or judgement; the final judgement has been made and finalized.
As Habakkuk was writing about the judgement of God against Israel and Judah, he writes that God is in His temple and that the earth is to be silent before Him.
No one likes to be judged guilty in anything. People will fight to maintain their complete innocence, even when guilty. Often, they will blame others or circumstances for their actions rather than accept the consequences of their actions.
It is common for many to blame God for the problems in this world. People try to shift blame onto God for sins done because He did not bless them correctly or meet their desires in the way that they wanted.
True believers have recognized that they are guilty of sin when standing before God. They know that they deserve every punishment God may choose to pour out upon them. As a result, they are willing to refuse to blame others or God for the sins that they committed and keep silent.
However, they also see God’s great mercy poured out through Jesus Christ in offering forgiveness of those sin. They stand upon the promise of God to forgive them by the blood of Jesus. It is not their own work, but that of Jesus that cleanses them of sin.
You, just as everyone else has, have sinned against God and are guilty. Judgement by God has been brought upon you. In this judgement you have one of two choices to make. You can be like the world and claim innocence or repent and claim the forgiveness found in the blood of Jesus.
Do not be like the world and try to blame others, but be silent before God, knowing you are guilty. Accept what God says and then repent of your sin and believe in the promise of Jesus to forgive you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal any unrepentant sin in your life; that you will hear what God says about your life; that you will repent of sin against God; and that you will know the mercy and forgiveness of God in your life.
