Woe to the bloody city! It is full of lies and robbery. Its victim never departs. Nahum 3:1
Cities are often known by something that is in the city, or what they provide for people, or the characteristics of the average person in the city. Some are known for things that cause many to desire to go see the city. Other cities are known for things that will cause people to stay away due to fear of danger.
Nahum brings a warning to the city of Ninevah is calling out woe to the city because it is full of lies and robbery and their victims never leave.
Cities are made up of people. It is the people that determine what type of characteristic the city will be known for. Many cities in America, and all other nations, have a statement that they make as a whole that they are proud of. Some of these statements are openly against God’s principles.
They are promoting lies of Satan as though they are good and truth. Being filled with deception, people are being robbed of true life for a false one that leads to death and destruction.
Drugs, murder of unborn children, divorce, mutilation of children’s bodies, gossip, immoral sexual activities, pornography, cheating, disobedience against parents and authorities, theft and many more actions and thoughts are promoted as good and true. Along with these things, the church has bought into the belief that there can be multiple ways to get into heaven.
There is a day of judgement coming against every person and city that promotes sin as good.
The solution to the problem is for there to be a call for repentance. Believers are to repent for not standing for God’s truth and being His bold and courageous witness in this world. The world needs Jesus and will only get Him through true believers.
You must ask yourself what the city you live in is known for. Is what it is known for something that is godly or is it something that is against God and His commands? Then you must take a look at your life and see how it is promoting God or the ways of the world. As a believer, do what you can to be His witness so that God can change the hearts of the people in your city and make it a city that loves Him.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to see the sin being promoted in your city; that God will lead you to be His witness in your city; and that God will change your city to one that follows Him.
