Micah 1:2 Is God’s Witness For Or Against You?

Hear, all you peoples! Listen, O earth, and all that is in it! Let the Lord God be a witness against you, the Lord from His holy temple. Micah 1:2

Everyday around the world there are courts being filled with witnesses. Some are testifying on behalf of someone innocent, while others are testifying against someone believed to be guilty. Decisions are constantly being made as to the innocence or guiltiness of people all the time based upon the facts that are provided by those witnesses. No one wants to be found guilty and have to receive punishment.

Micah opens his book with calling out to the people to listen because God is being a witness against them from His holy temple.

The world is living the only way it knows how to live, in sin. People have not always been shown the way to live that will please God. Others have been shown but have rejected it and continue to live in sin.

Inside the church, for most churches, people have been shown how to live for God. Yet, there are people, including some whole churches, that have rejected the choice to live for God. They continue to live in sin, and some will even promote living in sinful ways as though it is good.

Although it appears as if they are free and clear of any punishment, God is being a witness against them. There is coming a day of judgement in which God will punish all who sin against Him and refuse to repent.

While God is a witness against some, He will also be a witness for others. Every person who has repented of all sin and believed upon Jesus and His work upon the cross will be saved. Jesus will stand before the Father as a witness that the person has been cleansed of all sin.

How God will be a witness is up to the choice of each person.

You have probably seen or heard of court cases in which there are witnesses for and against a person. Or you may have even been in court at some point. In the spiritual realm you are in a court. God is looking at your life and is a witness of who you are and how you live your life. You do not want God to be a witness against you for unrepentant sin in your life, bringing on His judgement. Repent and believe in Jesus and receive a positive witness from God.

How will God be a witness about you?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will live your life for God; that God will be a witness of you live for Him; and that God will not have to bring a judgement against you.

  1. What role does Micah 1:2 play as God’s witness, either for or against individuals, as discussed in the article “Micah 1:2: Is God’s Witness for or Against You”?

    1. If you look at the entire chapter of Micah 1, you will be able to see that God is bringing judgement upon Israel for their sins. Micah is stating that God is being a witness against them–against their sin against Him. My question in the article is asking will God have to be a witness against you because of unrepentant sin, or will He be able to say ‘welcome in good and faithful servant’ because you have repented of your sins and believed in the work of Jesus.
I trust that this helps clarify what Micah 1 is talking about.
Have a blessed day in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
