Then the Lord said, “Is it right for you to be angry?” Jonah 4:4
Anger is something that appears to be nearly everyplace that a person looks. There is always someone angry about something, the line moving too slow, price too high, weather not right, pay too low, and more. With this anger, there are many who strike out physically and harm others, though most just use violent words to express their anger.
Jonah had not wanted to go to Nineveh as God told him to do. After doing so, the people of Nineveh had repented, and God saved them. Jonah was very angry, and God asks him if he has a right to be angry.
People get angry with God on a regular basis. Some refuse to follow God because they see Him as a bad God who allows pain in this world. Others have walked away from God because of pain or disaster that occurred in their life, and they blame God for it.
The anger that people have against God is often due to the fact that God did not work in the way that they felt He should. Due to sin, people are selfish and want their way. When they do not get their way, anger rises. Anger then gets focused either on others or on God, sometimes on both.
Believers who feel that anger rising in them must be willing to take a step back and look at the bigger picture, as much as they can. One cannot fully see the picture from God’s perspective, but one must be willing to trust God’s actions.
God works out of perfect love in every situation and never makes a mistake. Believers must be willing to trust how God works a situation out and not be angry with Him.
There will be times when God does something in a way that you do not fully understand or maybe enjoy. You have a choice at that moment as to how you will react. Do not allow the ways of this world to rise up in you and cause you to get angry with God.
Remember that God works out of perfect love and never makes a mistake. In reality, you have no right to get angry with God. Trust that He knows what He is doing and do not allow anger to rise up in you against Him.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will trust all that God does or allows; that you will know that God does all things out of perfect love; and that you will trust God over getting angry at Him.
