On Giants’ Shoulders (book review)
The author, Patrick McElligott, writes his story about becoming and being a missionary to the nation of Japan. He was born and raised in Great Britain right after the World Wars as an orphan. As a teen-age boy, he got in with the wrong crowds and was in a lot of trouble. Someone shared the message of Jesus with him and it changed his life.
Patrick talks about God leading him to be a missionary to Japan and the challenges it took to get there. He does an excellent job at describing some of the joys and sorrows of being a missionary and raising children in the mission field. There are many different amazing stories he tells on how God opened many doors for him and touched the lives of people in Japan over the thirty plus years that he served as a missionary.
It is very interesting to see how he has to overcome different cultural differences in order to bring the gospel message to the people effectively. Patrick learns the language and gains the favor of the people and the government in amazing ways.
While he tells his story, he also clearly describes the need to tell others about Jesus and the need for salvation for all.
I highly recommend reading this book. It will challenge you to being open to hearing God lead you to be His witness, whether in your own neighborhood or in another nation. It will also clearly point out the path of salvation for all to hear. This book will also strengthen and encourage you to walk the path God has for you even when it is difficult.
