Amos 2:12 Refusing To Hear Prophesy

But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink, and commanded the prophets saying, ‘Do not prophesy!’ Amos 2:12

Messages are sent out all the time for various reasons. Some of those messages are heard and taken in to consideration. Other messages are ignored and pushed aside. People like to pick and choose what they are told and what they hear. When it does not make them happy or go along with their way of thinking, they will often reject the message and tell the messenger to be quiet.

Amos records God telling the people of Israel that He had sent prophets to them, but they caused the Nazirites to get drunk and told the prophets to not prophesy at all.

Messengers are sent out to give an important message to the ones who are to receive it. Sometimes the message being brought is good, but often the message is not a positive one. It may require change or a cost to heed to it and do what was said.

Throughout history, God has sent many different prophets or messengers to tell people to turn from sin or that there will be a problem. The final result of sin is death and God does not want to bring that on to anyone.

The world rejects that message so that they may continue to live in sin. There are also many in the church who are just like the world and reject the message God may be sending them. People want to live with one foot in the world of sin and one foot in heaven. They reject God’s message to turn from all sin.

God sends His message through His word and through people to show people the correct way to live life. Believers must not reject God’s word and tell the messenger to be silent but must hear and apply all of God’s word to their lives.

You may get bombarded with many messages everyday about all types of issues. As a result, it is easy to ignore some or turn off the messages being sent. One set of messages that you must not ignore, or reject is those that come from God and His messengers. Choose to hear God’s word to you and apply it to your life. Every word from God is meant to bring you an abundant life and point you towards Him.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will listen to every word of God; that you will not reject those God sends to you with His word; that you will apply His word to your life; and that you will not silence God’s messengers.
