I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes. Hosea 13:14
Doctors and scientists are doing many studies to find ways to cheat out death and allow someone to continue living longer and longer, yet death is something that no person has been able to escape. Every person will eventually die by either some sickness, injury or just old age no matter what they try to do to stop it from occurring.
Hosea records God saying that He will ransom and redeem Israel from the power of death. He will become the plague and destruction to death with no pity for death.
As people fear physical death, many are walking around already dead spiritually. From the moment a person sins for the first time, that person is dead. Sin brings about a spiritual death that no person can escape on one’s own power, just as physical death cannot be avoided.
The world strives to look like they are alive and happy. Death has a hold on them, keeping them in sin, blinding their eyes to seeing God.
Jesus came to the earth to die upon the cross in order to defeat death and its power. Upon His rising from the dead, Jesus became able to redeem all who believe in Him from the power of spiritual death. Sins are forgiven and life is given.
Those who believe in Jesus are redeemed from their sins. Upon their physical death, they are given a spiritual life that will last for eternity. Death and sin will be defeated in the end for everyone who trusts in Jesus for their salvation.
As you look around you there is death occurring on a regular basis. People are physically dying, but they are also walking dead in sins. If you do not put your trust in Jesus, you are also walking around dead in your sins. Jesus died upon the cross in order to remove your sins and defeat the death in you.
Turn to Jesus and repent of your sins and trust Him to give you new life that will last for eternity. He is waiting ready and willing to redeem you from the death of sin.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the redeeming power of God against death; that your life will be filled with the life only God can provide; that God will destroy the power of sin in your life; and that you will live the life God is willing to give you.
