Ezekiel 48:38 What Is Your Name?

All the way around shall be eighteen thousand cubit; and the name of the city from that day shall be: THE LORD IS THERE. Ezekiel 48:35

Every city around the world has a name. The name chosen can be because of where it is located, what is in it, by who founded the city, or some other significant reason. There is significance to the name that is sometimes lost in history. Just as cities are name, every person is given a name. Parents have thousands of different reasons for choosing the name that is given a new child.

As Ezekiel closes out his book, he records God giving details of a new city. The distance around the new city is 18,000 cubits, which is approximately 3,500 miles. It is also given a new name: The Lord Is There.

A name is something that every person is given at birth. Throughout the lifetime of a person, most people are also given new names or titles. Depending on who is dealing with a person, will often determine how the person is known.

For a child, the father is known as dad. For wife, the father is known as husband. In the workplace or community, the person many be known by many other names, depending upon the situation.

The moment a person chooses to believe in Jesus and be saved, that person is given a new name. Part of that name is ‘Christian’, meaning Christ follower. Another name a person can be given is: The Lord is There.

Believers are filled with God’s Spirit and God dwells in their heart and life. When people see a believer, they should see that God is there with that believer. They should see the Lord beaming out of their life in their words and actions that look just like Jesus would look.

Just as your parents gave you a name, God is giving you a new name when you believe in and trust Him. You are to be known as a Christ follower and that God is with you. This can be seen in how you act, react, speak and what you do or do not do in your everyday life. People should be able to see and know that God is with you by all that you say and do.

Having this new name can also boost your faith, because the Lord is there with you at all times and in every circumstance.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the name God is calling you by; that the world will see that God is with you; that the world will know that you are a Christ follower by all of your words and actions; and that you will know that God is with you.
