In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you, and you were not cleansed, you will not be cleansed of your filthiness anymore, till I have caused My fury to rest upon you. Ezkiel 24:13
Some children love to play outside in the dirt and get very dirty. When they are given a bath and are cleaned up, they will quickly run back outside and begin to play in the dirt, refusing to stay clean. This can often occur over and over until they get old enough to begin to understand the need to stay clean.
Ezekiel records God telling the people of Jerusalem that He had cleansed them, and they refused to be cleansed, staying in their filthiness and lewdness. He then says that they will no longer be cleansed until His fury rests upon them.
The world lives not knowing God and so live in sin and filth. Since they are in so much filth and don’t know God, they do not know that they are filthy with sin. Sin is just a part of their lives and there appears to be no reason to be cleansed.
Those who have chosen to believe in Jesus and repent of their sins have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus of all their sin.
Many, however, choose to go back to their old sinful way of living. They choose to go back into the filth of sin, refusing to be cleansed. Along with that, some will say that the filth is acceptable to God. Living like this will only bring the wrath of God upon them.
Instead of going back to sin, believers are to remain cleansed. They are to be pure and holy as God is holy, with no sin in their lives. That is the whole purpose Jesus died upon the cross and rose again.
As you take a bath to be cleansed of any dirt and filth on your body, you must also be cleansed by the blood of Jesus. His cleansing blood cleanses you of all sin and filth of this fallen world. Just as you do not immediately go back into the dirt after taking a bath, do not go back into sin after Jesus has cleansed you. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you in staying clean and free from sin. Do not bring the wrath of God upon you for a moments pleasure in sin.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will be cleansed by Jesus of all sin; that you will flee all sin by the power of the Holy Spirit in your life; and that you will remain cleansed of sin to be pure and holy before God.
