Jeremiah 44:13 Punishment For Living In Egypt

For I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence. Jeremiah 44:13

Choosing to live in some specific location will often bring on certain blessings and certain challenges. Living on the coast of an ocean may not have any tornadoes, but it will have hurricanes. People have a freedom to live where they desire and often it is acceptable. Along with that freedom, they also can live how they want, which also will come with consequences, sometimes good, sometimes bad.

Jeremiah quotes God in saying that those who chose to dwell in the land of Egypt will be punished by Him by sword, famine and pestilence.

The physical country of Egypt has a population of only about 109 million people living in it. That is an extremely small portion of the population of the entire world with over eight billion people. While it is small, the majority of people have chosen to live in the spiritual realm of Egypt as some of the Israelites did the physical.

Every person who has heard God’s word and commands has chosen to reject God and live in a spiritual Egypt. They have chosen to follow and worship the false gods of this world, rather than follow and worship the one true God who created everything.

There are many in the church, including leaders, that have chosen to live in Egypt. Instead of fleeing sin and resisting temptation, they embrace sinful activities as though God does not care. In the process God often brings on more trouble into their lives. Peace is gone. Joy is missing. Lack is common.

All these things are corrections by God to get a person to return to Him. Believers are to stay out of spiritual Egypt and only follow and worship God.

Most likely you do not live in the physical Egypt of this world. However, you may choose to live in or dwell in the spiritual Egypt. Examine your life and see if you have chosen to reject God’s commands and are living in purposefully sinful ways that go against God.

If you are living there, chose to repent and return to God. He is ready and willing to forgive you and take you back into His kingdom and land. Worship and serve the Lord God alone, not the false gods of this world of self pleasure and sin.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal any Egypt in your life; that you will repent of any sin and return to God alone; and that God will not have to bring on any trouble in your life as punishment.
