But neither he nor his servants nor the people of the land gave heed to the words of the Lord which He spoke by the prophet Jeremiah. Jeremiah 37:2
It is easy for people to hear words being spoken about nearly anything and everything. It is much different to give heed to those words. Depending upon the authority of the person giving the words, people choose whether to listen to them and heed them or reject them. Only if a person totally trusts the one speaking, does one choose to heed the words and take them to heart.
King Zedekiah, his servants, nor the people of the land would give heed to the words of the Lord that Jeremiah spoke to them.
Every person has something to say about many different things. Very few are an expert on speaking about any one thing. They can only speak out of general experience and their own thoughts. Most don’t have high experience in many areas in which they talk about.
As a result of this, most people do not trust what someone else is often saying. This becomes very true when someone is speaking the words of God. Since most people have never physically met God or heard God audibly speak, they do not trust when one says that the words of God are being spoken.
Along with doubting the words being spoken, many will also doubt God’s word in the Bible. People tend to see the Bible as just a good book of good stories and good morals. It is not often seen as God’s actual word to mankind.
Just as the Israelites rejected God’s word through Jeremiah and did not heed it, they reject God’s word today both in the church and in the world. Believers are to heed the word of God, no matter how hard it is to hear.
God is always speaking to you through the Bible and through others. Every time you hear God’s word being spoken you have a choice to make. You have to choose whether to heed it and obey it, or to reject it. Rejecting God’s word to you will come with eternal consequences of judgement from God. Heeding His word will bring about His blessings and favor in every area of your life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God’s word spoken to you; that you will heed all of God’s words to you; and that you will trust God’s word He gives you.
