Hear the word which the Lord speaks to you, O house of Israel. Jeremiah 10:1
Certain groups or people have authority to speak. When they say something, people will often listen. People are quick to listen to what a doctor says and will often act upon what was said. Others will listen to what some celebrity will say on some issue and believe it and follow that person down the same path. Many will hang tightly onto the words that someone says and will not let anyone else detour them from those words.
Jeremiah tells the people of Israel to listen to the words that God was speaking to them.
While the world is quick to listen to other people, they will often reject the words of God, or else they will listen to a part of what He says and reject the rest. This occurs because the world typically does not like to hear all the truth and nothing but the truth, they just want to hear what sounds good in the moment.
Either the world hears that God loves them, or they hear that God is judging them, while missing the rest of what God has said. If all that is heard is love, they miss that they are living in sin and need to repent. If all they hear is judgement, they miss the love and grace of God found in repentance.
Just as the world hears only a part of what God is saying, many inside the church only partially listen to Him. They miss the part of turning from all sin, or that through Him all things are possible. Many miss that He promised trouble in this life, but also that He has overcome those troubles. One must die to self, but then will be given eternal life in the end.
Believers need to hear the whole word of God and believe it all.
Ask yourself what you know of God’s word. What parts of God’s word have you heard? And what parts of God’s word have you ignored or rejected in your life? Dedicate your life to hearing the whole word of God and living by His word and standards. Allow God to direct your path through this life, through the good, the bad and the ugly, until you reach eternal glory in heaven. It will be worth hearing and obeying His word in the end.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as Lord and Savior; that you will hear what God has to say; that you will obey what God tells you to do or not do; and that you will know the joy of hearing God speak into your life.
