Therefore I said, “Surely these are poor. They are foolish; for they do not know the way of the Lord, the judgement of their God.” Jeremiah 5:4
The world normally sees a person as poor if one does not have any real wealth, often in the form of finances or material things. Character is something that is often not seen as a part of whether one is poor or not. Belief in that one can live however one desires and it is acceptable. Each person makes their own choice on the path they desire to take through this life and there will be no long-term consequences.
Jeremiah states that the people are poor and foolish because they do not know the way of God or the judgement of God.
The majority of people in the world live with the mindset that they live today and tomorrow they die. There is no view of eternity in their lives, it is all about the here and now, pleasing self right now. As a result, many in the world are living in depression and confusion, they are poor and foolish.
Living without God is the most foolish thing that a person can do. They do not know nor understand the way of God or the judgement that will come as a result of their living. It leaves them in a deficit, owing for their sins and unable to ever pay the price.
Instead of living for self in the moment, people are to live for God and according to His ways. God has laid out in the Bible the way for a person to live that will lead to eternal life and remove the judgement of God. It is living by faith in Jesus Christ and by His righteousness. It is denying self, dying to self and living for God making one wise and wealthy.
No matter where you live, you have some choices that you are allowed to make as to how you live your life. The world will be quick to attempt to show you that you should live to please yourself in the moment. Living this way only leads to death, a poor and foolish decision.
Make the choice to know the way of the Lord and live in the way of God. Choose to flee sin and selfishness and put on the humility and righteousness of Christ and no longer be poor and foolish.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will no longer live in the foolish ways of the world; that you will know the path of God; and that you will live according to God’s plan for your life.
