As a beast goes down into the valley, and the Spirit of the Lord causes him to rest, so You lead Your people, to make Yourself a glorious name. Isaiah 63:14
People love to do things and keep busy. With technology making things easier, people feel that they can do more and more since things move faster and easier. As a result, people do not like to stop and take time to actually rest. They are always on the go and are wearing themselves out because there is always more to do.
Isaiah describes how God causes the animal to go down into the valley and get some rest. In the same way God leads His people so that He will make Himself a glorious name.
No matter how much a person does or gets done, there is always more to do. It is easy for many people to always be on the go seven days a week trying to make it. People feel that if they stop to rest, they will miss out on something or fail.
God did not make people to always be going without any rest. When people go that hard, they end up making mistakes and failing. Anger rises, frustrations arise, fear runs rampant, and dangerous situations occur. It is during these times, people fall into sinful ways, rejecting the ways of God.
Believers are to be led by the Spirit of God in every area of their lives. God will lead them to do a work, but there will also be times of rest. God took time to rest after creating the world. He also causes His people to stop and rest once in a while. This gives them a chance to refocus upon Him and His ways. When that is done, God’s name is honored and made more glorious.
In your life you probably have many things to do on a regular basis that keeps you very busy. Finding time to slow down and rest may be difficult. Allow yourself to be led by God as to what you should or should not do. The Holy Spirit is ready and willing to lead you in the best path to take. Part of that path will be for times to rest and refocus your life upon God. Do not allow yourself to burnout running longer than God has called you to run. Take time to rest in Him.
