I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with jewels. Isaiah 61:10
With all the difficulties and troubles in life, finding things to really rejoice in and be glad about is difficult for many people. All they see is turmoil and sorrow. As a result, most people have no real joy in their lives. Often, they are quick to blame others for all of their sorrows and cannot see any reason to rejoice and be glad.
Isaiah says that he will greatly rejoice and be joyful in God because God had clothed him with salvation and righteousness in the same way that the bride and bridegroom would adorn themselves for a wedding.
It is easy for people to see the trouble in this world. Everyone is suffering and going through difficult times. The world is quick to blame God for why there is trouble in one’s life and cannot see the joy that God is offering to those who trust in Him.
Having sinned, every person has a death sentence upon their lives that only God can remove through the blood of Jesus Christ. People are clothed in sin and death with no hope. Once a person chooses to repent of all sin and believe in Jesus, God is quick to cloth that person with clothes of salvation and righteousness.
The garments of salvation are the removal of the death sentence and given eternal life. The clothing of righteousness is the clothing of living right for God as though nothing had been done wrong. With all of this new clothing, the believer has reason to greatly rejoice and be joyful in God. Nothing better could ever be given a person.
If you have chosen to believe in the work of Jesus in your life, you have the greatest reasons to be joyful in God. He has given you more than all the world could ever give you–salvation from sin and clothed with righteousness. No matter what troubles you face today, take time to rejoice and be joyful in what God has given you. Be glad for God’s great love and mercy upon you and His generosity towards you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the garments of salvation God has given you; that you will know the garments of righteousness God has clothed you with; and that you will rejoice and be joyful in God.
