The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever. Isaiah 32:17
People dream of having peace, quietness and assurance. They strive to have these things in their lives. The world believes that when one can have enough wealth and position, one will have all the peace and assurance desired, that there is nothing more needed. Despite all the wealth many have, there is still no real peace or assurance. Chaos and disasters still occur, and everything is threatened in some form or another. Danger is found everywhere one goes.
Isaiah points out that the results of righteousness will be peace, quietness and assurance that never ends.
The world is always pushing that one can do what one wants, when one wants and how one wants, as long as it does not directly harm another person. It is all about pleasing self in whatever manner is needed or desired. Yet, despite people being able to do what they want, very few are at peace, very few have quiet lives, and nearly none have any true assurance in this life.
Doing only what one wants to do is selfishness, which is sin. The world lives to sin, bringing about turmoil, uncertainty, fear and death.
The opposite of sinning is righteousness, doing what is right in the eyes of God at all times and in every situation. When one does what is right, physically, in speaking and mentally, that person will always show God’s perfect love in the perfect way. As a result, there will be peace, quietness and assurance.
God will only lead a person into the perfect way that leads to eternal life. He will never lead a person into sin that only brings about chaos, confusion and death. Believers need to live to be righteous in all they do before God and man.
In whatever nation you live in, there is chaos and turmoil that is occurring due to the promotion of sinful lifestyles. Some of this may affect you a lot, while other things may not have as much of an effect upon you. How you live, however, will have a great affect upon the peace, quietness and assurance you have in your life. The more you are living for God and doing what is right, the more peace you will have despite the chaos in this world. You will know that you have eternal life to look forward to that no one can take away.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal to you how to live righteously; that you will know the peace, quietness and assurance of living in Christ’s righteousness; and that God will give you strength to turn away from the sinful living of this fallen world.
