For in that day every man shall throw away his idols of silver and his idols of gold–sin, which your own hands have made for yourselves. Isaiah 31:7
Every person has things that one likes and cherishes. Most will also have things that they idolize, that they put above everything and everyone else. Those things that are idolized are invested in with time, money, thoughts and actions. One may not physically worship the things one has, but so much time and money is put into it, that it is virtually worshipped.
Talking of a future day, Isaiah says that every man in Jerusalem will throw away his idols of silver and gold, sin that they have made with their own hands.
During the time of Isaiah’s writing, Israel had physically worshipped idols and rejected God. There would come a day in which they would stop the worship of idols.
In most western nations, there is very little direct physical worship of an idol as though it were a god, as can be seen in many far eastern nations. Even though people do not physically worship things as though they are gods, people worship their things and positions. Focus is place on those things and positions, pushing God out of the picture.
The world lives this way because they do not know the truth or a better way. All one knows is pleasing self and putting self on the throne where God should be. Idols are a way of life.
When a person chooses to believe in Jesus and repent of one’s sins, that person begins to throw away the idols in one’s life. God is placed upon the throne of the heart and all sin is removed, whether great or small, physical or mental. There is no longer a revolt or rebellion against God, but whole-hearted serving Him.
Prior to your being a believer in Jesus, you had idols in your life that took the place of God. You may even allow some idols back into your life as a believer. Get rid of all idols in your life and put God on the throne of your heart and life. Allow Him to be your whole focus in this life and to receive all your worship. Become the new creation that Christ Jesus died on the cross to create you to be. Worship God alone.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal any idols in your life; that God will give you strength to get rid of any idols in your life; and that you will be a new creation in Christ Jesus with God on the throne of your life.
