To whom He said, “This is the rest with which you may cause the weary to rest,” and, “This is the refreshing”; yet they would not hear. Isaiah 28:12
It is easy for many people to be told something and yet they do not hear it. Often times the person is distracted with something else and not hearing what is being said. Other times, they hear what is being said, but do not understand it. There are still others who will choose to not hear what is being said on purpose.
Isaiah quotes God saying that He offered rest for the weary and that it would be refreshing, but the people refused to hear what God was saying.
Hearing someone say something is easy to do. People hear things being said all the time. However, there is a different aspect to hearing that most people do not take on, that is obeying what is said.
Many hear the words of God as though they are suggestions that can be ignored. God gives warnings to keep from danger or that judgement is coming for things done wrong. He also points out the way to have rest and a time of refreshing for the body and soul.
The world likes to ignore God instructions on how to really live a life that is full and restful at the same time. Ignoring God’s directions, keeps many on a path towards death and one that is full of stress and turmoil, with no inner peace or rest. Some in the church will act in the same way.
Believers are to hear God’s word and heed them, not ignore them. God is telling people how to have true rest and to be refreshed and strengthened in this life. As one hears and obeys His words, one will find that true rest, in the midst of being busy working for God, and be refreshed.
God has a path for you that will include rest and a refreshing for your soul and mind. This path is laid out in the Bible and given by His Holy Spirit for you to follow. You have a choice to listen or reject His word. Do not be like the world and the Israelites and refuse to hear what God is saying. Embrace His words and find His rest and be refreshed for your mind, body and soul in this world of chaos and trouble.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear what God is saying to you; that you will obey God’s word to you; that you will know the rest God has for you; and that God will refresh your mind, body and soul by His word and Holy Spirit.
