Isaiah 27:12 A Coming Gathering

And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord will thresh, from the channel of the River to the Brook of Egypt; and you will be gathered one by one, O you children of Israel. Isaiah 27:12

Farmers that grow wheat will begin to thresh it when the wheat is ready to be harvested. It is a process of gathering the wheat and keeping out what is not the wheat. Combines are now used to gather in the wheat in a fast manner using tongs that grab what is needed and separating what is not desired.

Isaiah looks forward to the day when God will thresh throughout the land and gather all the people of Israel, who had been put into exile, and bring them back to their land.

After Israel had fallen as a nation in the Old Testament, they had become scattered throughout the world. About 2,000 years later, God had drawn them back together into their land and they became a nation again, just as Isaiah had prophesied, and they are still a nation to this day.

In the same way that the people of Israel were scattered around the world, God’s people, believers, are scattered all over the world. Every nation has people who believe in Jesus, and they live among people who do not believe in Jesus.

Although believers live separately all over the world today, there is coming a day when God will thresh the land and gather all of His people together into one place. That day will come when Jesus returns to bring home all of His followers into heaven for eternity.

Knowing this gives the believer hope that there is a new life coming some day, that all the troubles will be over when Jesus returns, and one gets to go home to heaven for eternity.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the hope of Jesus returning for you some day; that God will gather you from among the lost in this world; and that you will be ready for the threshing that Jesus will do one day in the future.
