Be shattered, O you peoples, and be broken in pieces! Give ear, all you from far countries. Gird yourselves, but be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, but be broken in pieces. Isaiah 8:9
People around the world are always striving to put their best foot forward. They want to be seen as having it altogether and that they are in control with no problems in life, regardless of how much difficulty one might be going through. All the problems in life are hidden or drowned out behind something else to make life more bearable.
God calls the people to be shattered and broken. They are to listen and gird themselves up but be broken in pieces.
Pride keeps people from revealing their faults or troubles in their lives. If there is a fault, then it means one is not perfect or does not have it altogether as one should and is failing. It also means one must rely upon someone else to fix it or make up the difference. Pride is what caused the first sin to occur.
The world sees pride as a good thing. Everyone is told to be proud of who they are or what they have done.
God sees pride as sin and wrong. He wants people to be humble before Him. In order to be humble before God, one must be broken and shattered, recognizing one’s own sin and how one needs a savior.
Once one is broken and shattered, God can pick up the pieces and put the person back together correctly in holiness and righteousness without sin. One is to gird oneself with the righteousness of Jesus as one believes in what He did upon the cross to remove sin and guilt, but this is done in humility and brokenness, not in pride.
The world is trying to tell you to be proud of who you are and what you have done, that there is no such thing as sin. Believe God’s word to you that you have sinned and fallen short of His glory. Do not try to fix your life on your own or be what the world calls you to be.
Be broken and shattered before God and allow Him to put you back together in the way you should be in holiness and righteousness. Jesus will make you into a beautiful child of God, fit to stand before a holy God in righteousness and holiness.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will be broken before God; that God will help you remove pride in your life; that you will allow God to put you together in His way; and that you will be a shining light for the glory of God.
