Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is as strong as death, jealousy as cruel as the grave; its flames are flames of fire, a most vehement flame. Song of Solomon 8:6
Extremely important documents are often stamped with an embossed seal to prove their legitimacy. Other documents have a seal of the one in authority authorizing the document to show one’s power and authority. Once signed or sealed, it is set in stone until the author of the document comes along and releases its authority and power by removing the seal.
The Shulamite asks her beloved to set her as a seal upon His heart and arm because love is as strong as the grave and jealousy as cruel as the grave like a flaming fire.
True love grabs on to what is loved and does not let go for anything, just as death grabs a hold of a person and never lets go in this world. Love knows no bounds in which it will go to show that love.
Alongside of true love is jealousy. No one wants to share the closest, most intimate love with another. If that love is given away incorrectly, one will be jealous and will be willing to do anything to get revenge for lost love.
God said that He engraved the names of His people upon His hand so that He will never forget them. Every believer has one’s name upon God’s heart. God will never forget, nor forsake or leave the believer because that believer is so close to His heart. He will also never share that love with another. Jesus said that one is to forsake all others in order to follow Him.
Every believer must become a seal upon God’s heart and arm, knowing His heart and strength.
You may or may not have some seal that shows your authority or power of position. You most likely have seen someone’s seal of approval or authority. God has placed you as a seal upon His heart and given His Holy Spirit as a seal upon your heart. His love and jealousy know no boundaries for you. God’s love for you is eternal and can never be shaken.
Rest in the fact that you are upon His heart at all times. Rest in His love and jealousy knowing you belong to Him.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God’s love for you; that you will know you are upon God’s heart at all times; and that you will not cause God to be jealous for you turning to others.
