The watchmen who went about the city found me. They struck me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took my veil away from me. Song of Solomon 5:7
Guards are set up around cities and businesses to protect what they are guarding. Often these are just policeman, but some have actual guards. This is done to keep people from stealing or damaging anything. Along with guards being set up, there are also guidelines that are laid out to define what can be and cannot be done. The guards are also to enforce those guidelines.
As the Shulamite was looking for her beloved in the city, the watchmen of the city found her, beat her and took her covering.
The world has its own way of doing things, though it does not have a solid foundation on which those standards are made, and they change on a regular basis. People do not like to be told that their ways are wrong, nor do they like someone coming in that do things differently.
Everyone is expected to be compliant and follow their ways. When someone does not follow their ways, they are beaten down by various methods, ridiculed, shamed, physically harmed, jailed and more.
Believers live by God’s standard and the world does not like it. Going through life in this fallen world, believers will stand out as different and in opposition of the ways of the world. Instead of standing by idly, the world will strike out and attempt to beat down believers for chasing after God and speaking His truth.
Just because the world will strike believers, the believers are not to give in or quit following God. They are to chase after and live for God with eternity in mind, not this temporary fallen world. God will bring them through in the end to eternal life.
From the moment you chose to believe in and follow Jesus, you became an enemy to the world. There will be times the world will try to stop you; they will beat you in various ways and try to strip you of what you believe in. Do not stop chasing after God because of what the world is attempting to do to you.
Lean on God and His strength and promises. Know that God will give you eternal victory and life when it is over.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will give you strength as the world tries to attack you; that God will protect your heart in times of attacks; and that the world will know you are a follower of Jesus.
