Hebrews 11:16 What Is Your Heart’s Desire?

Instead, they were longing for a better country–a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. Hebrews 11:16

All around the world there are many people who are longing or desiring for a better place to live. For some it is seeking to be in a different country, while for most it is just in a different part of their own country.

Many feel that if they were living in a certain area, life would just be great with very few problems. Often the perfect place is never actually found.

The author of Hebrews had been talking about men and women of faith. He states that they were seeking a home outside of this earthly realm and that God is preparing them that new home.

While the world is seeking the perfect place to live on this earth, believers have something greater to look forward to. No nation on this earth is perfect, because every nation is made up by and ruled by men who are sinners and fail.

So instead of seeking out a new place here on the earth, believers are looking forward to a new place in heaven.

Every believer is on a journey to a new place being prepared for them in heaven, even while they live on this earth. This journey is one of faith. No one can see the new place in heaven, but believe that God is preparing it for them as He says He is.

As one believes God’s word about eternal life in heaven, it gives one strength to keep moving forward. He will not grow discouraged when faced with the troubles of this world, because he knows that there is a better life coming.

You will have days in your life that there are many struggles. Instead of focusing on a new place here on their earth, focus upon what God has in store for you.

Put your heart upon being with God for eternity in heaven, the best place possible. God is preparing the perfect home for you right now. It will only be a matter of time before you get to go to that new home.

Do not focus upon the temporary places of this earth, that will fade away, but upon God and His kingdom. You belong to God and He will give you the best in the end.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will give you a vision of what He has prepared for you; that you will trust God’s promises to you; that you will not get discouraged with the temporary things of this earth; and that you will live to please God.

Nahum 3:1 Woe To A City Of Blood

View of a city

Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without victims. Nahum 3:1

Every city in the world, regardless of its size, is known for something. Most often people think of the physical things that a city provides as what it is known for. However, some cities are known for how it acts.

The world is a world that is full of sin. The majority of people in this world do live to please self in whatever method desired. Satan has no moral guidelines as to how a person should live his life.

Micah brings God’s judgement against Nineveh as a city of blood, lies and plunder–stealing.

Very few cities would like to be known as a city of blood, lies or stealing. Even people that do not believe in God know there is a problem with those things. Yet, many are known for and promote these very same things as good.

While killing a person is often a crime, abortion, which is also murder, is promoted as good. Very few cities in America are not innocent of murder of babies. In the process of this the cities also are guilty of lies. Lies are being said that abortion is a right and is good and lives are being stolen. With that there are also many victims.

This is just one example of what cities are guilty of. Believers have often been quiet about sin and not being the witness God has called them to be. This has allowed for the corruption of many cities around the world.

Every believer needs to be a witness of who God is and how He can change lives and bring about life. Believers need to take a stand against sin in their communities so that they will not be known as a city of blood, lies and theft.

If you have ever been guilty of lies, blood, or theft, God is ready and waiting to forgive you. He does not desire to punish and destroy you. Repent and allow God to change you.

Once you have repented, be the witness Jesus has called you to be. Show your community where you live how to really live and change how your city is viewed by God. Do not be a nation, city, community or house known for blood, lies or theft. Allow all you are around to be known as living for God.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will repent of all sin; that you will know God’s forgiveness; and that you will bring the life Jesus provides to this world.

Ezekiel 48:35 What Is Your Name?

Books on a shelf

The distance all around will be 18,000 cubits. And the name of the city from that time on will be: THE LORD IS THERE. Ezekiel 48:35

Titles or names can be important to let people know about something. It allows people to know who someone is and what his position is. It allows people to know what city, county or state they are in.

Without any names, people would only have confusion. No one would know who anyone or anything is. There would be no division as to what is good and what is bad.

Ezekiel was given a vision of the future city of Jerusalem. As he finishes out the vision and the book, he is told that the name of the city would be: The Lord Is There.

There are some people in the church who do not believe that titles should be used by anyone. They feel that titles is sinful and only fills one with pride. However, God used titles throughout the bible. Think of all the titles were given to God: provider, banner, shepherd. God also gave people titles: friend, priest, minister, witness.

One of the titles that every believer has in common is that he is a Christian. That title lets everyone know that he is a follower of Jesus. Being a follower of Jesus, also means that one has His Holy Spirit to guide him. Thus he also has the ancient title that Jerusalem had–The Lord Is There.

God is with every believer and the world should be able to see that. It is what sets a believer apart from the rest of the world. It is what drives him to live a life that is different. It is what compels him to turn away from sin and sinful practices. God’s presence is what gives the believer strength to love everyone, including his enemies.

You, also have a title and a name. When people look at you, who do they see? When they talk about you, what do they say?

You are a child of God and God’s presence is with you. Live your life in a way that brings honor to the name God has given you. Be willing to let the world know who Jesus is and what He has done for you and for them.

Just as God had said He would be with the city forever, He is also with you forever. You can have the name–The Lord Is There.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s presence in your life; that the world will know God is with you; and that you will be God’s witness to the world.
