Proverbs 20:6 False Claims

Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, but who can find a faithful man? Proverbs 20:6

The world will promote that every person is good in and of themselves as a whole. Flaws are often overlooked as a person just being human and that is a part of life. Most people do not live in a way in which they are deserving physical prison or death according to the laws of the world. As a result, most people feel that they are a good person.

Solomon says that most people proclaim their own goodness, but no one can really find a faithful man.

In order to claim something is good, one must compare that something to something else. When that is done, one may appear to be better than another, the good appears to outweigh the bad.

This is commonly done among people. Comparison of what a person has done that is ‘good’ and what a person has done that is ‘bad’ occurs all the time allowing a person to proclaim one’s own goodness. Doing this is easy when comparing against another person.

When compared against God’s goodness, no person can claim to be good. God is the perfect example of what is good in every area of life.

Humans are unfaithful in their walk with God on a regular basis. Any one single sin causes a person to be filled with evil and make them no longer good.

Instead of claiming one’s own goodness, believers claim God’s goodness in their lives. It is God who is truly faithful all the time, not the believer. Believers need to strive to be faithful to God in every area of their lives, to walk the holy and blameless life Jesus paid for and provided for them to walk. Doing this is a sign of faithfulness to God.

It will be easy for you to compare your own goodness with that of others, making you look good or bad. Do not compare your life with others, but with that of Jesus. See how your life measures up to His holiness and perfection.

Repent of your sins and accept what He has done for you and walk in the power He provides. Take on His holiness and righteousness and be faithful with what He has given you. In your own power, you will never be good, but in Christ Jesus you are made good as you are faithful to Him.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the goodness of God; that God will open your eyes to the sin in your life; that you will be faithful to God’s commands for you; and that you will be clothed with the righteousness of Jesus.
