Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase. Proverbs 3:9
Possession is what a person has. The goal of the world is for a person to get as much as possible. There is no thing as too much possession according to the individual, in the eyes of the world. The purpose of having more is so that a person can do more and be above all others. It also gives a false sense of control and power. Each individual is in control of one’s own life and possessions.
Solomon tells his son to honor God with everything he owns and with the first fruits of all his increase.
Self is always about self and wants everything for self. Pride rises up in the heart of most people who have more things to own or control. The world pushes this view on a person right from the moment of birth until death. Everywhere one looks there are ads pushing that one needs more and more or that life is not worth it.
This same type of view is often seen in the church and in the hearts of believers that are not fully committed to God.
God, in His great love, demonstrated unselfishness with His greatest possession–His Son, Jesus. God gave His Son to die upon the cross so that a person could be forgiven of one’s sins and be given eternal life. And all of this was a free gift.
Instead of being like the world and hoarding all possessions for self, believers are to honor God with all they have. This not only incudes their physical possessions, but their very lives also. Everything that a person has, including one’s life, belongs to God.
Using all those possessions and one’s life for God’s glory is the greatest honor one can bestow upon God.
Regardless of how much or how little you may possess, God has blessed you with some physical possessions. He has also blessed you with forgiveness and life, both now and extending into all eternity. Do not be selfish and full of pride, hoarding all that God has just for yourself. Honor God with all He has blessed you with by using it to build His kingdom in your own life and in this world. Give all you have for God to use in the best way possible.
Honor God with all of your possessions, including your life.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will honor God with all of your life; that you will honor God with all of your possessions; and that God will break off the selfishness and pride in your life.
