Let them praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is exalted; His glory is above the earth and heaven. Psalm 148:13
Names of people are often exalted and raised up when someone has done something great. Often there is a person who has done something so great that people lift that person up almost to a God-like status. One is nearly worshipped for what was done and cannot do anything wrong, in the eyes of the world. This occurs most often with people who are just entertainers, versus those who have done actual good.
The psalmist had listed off things of all creation that praise the Lord. Now he tells them to praise the Lord because it is God who is exalted above all, and His glory is above all things.
Everyday people are exalted and lifted up in the entertaining world. Actors, singers, sports players and other artists are often raised up to a cult-like status. People desire to be like the ones that they lift up and give praise to.
Those that are being lifted up have only done good things that only last for the present moment or for a short time. Nothing that people have done will last for eternity.
While the world is lifting up people, the majority do not even think about God at all, yet God is to be exalted above all. It is God alone who has created the heavens and the earth and everything in them. It is God alone who has provided a way to have sins removed and eternal life given to a person. It is God alone who has given His Holy Spirit to guide a person in how live for God and serve God.
Every person needs to praise the name of the Lord at all times. God is worthy of all praise. Only He is to be exalted above all.
There are probably some people you know about who have done some very good things. While it is good to acknowledge those good things, that acknowledgment should not raise above that given to God.
God is to be exalted and praised above all things and other people in your life. It is God who has forgiven you and given you life that will go into all eternity. God is worthy of all your praise. Praise the name of the Lord.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will see the worthiness of giving God all praise; that you will exalt God above all things and people in your life; and that your whole life will be one of praise to God.
