My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning–yes, more than those who watch for the morning. Psalm 130:6
Waiting is something people do on a regular basis. Most often it is waiting that is not desired–waiting for the light to turn green or waiting in the checkout line. Other times people wait in line for something that they greatly desire and are willing to pay any cost to get before anyone else can get it. Waiting often causes grumbling and impatience in the hearts and minds of most people.
The psalmist says that his soul waits for the Lord, even more than those who watch for morning.
Night guards have to sit or stand all through the night guarding something that usually does not have anyone disturbing it. Most often nothing occurs, so they sit waiting anxiously for morning to come and be done with the waiting and watching nothing.
People do not usually like to wait, especially if it is for something that they really desire. They want it now and no matter how fast that ‘now’ is, it is not fast enough. Anything that gets in the way of receiving something and slows it down is a grievance.
God works on a timetable that is done in view of eternity. People only have a temporary, short time view of when things should occur. God’s ways and thoughts are also higher than any person’s ways or thoughts.
Knowing this, disciples of Jesus must be willing to wait for God to answer or move in one’s life. One must wait as the night guard is waiting for morning to come. It is an anxious waiting, but also one that knows that morning will come.
God will arrive with an answer and move at the perfect time.
There are promises of God in your life that you are probably waiting for God to answer. Do not allow yourself to give up on waiting for His answer. Do not allow yourself to grumble and complain that God has not answered you yet. Keep waiting and trusting in God’s perfect timing in your life. Watch for His answer, knowing that it will come as sure as morning comes each new day. The next morning may be the one in which God answers your prayer and call to Him.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will wait patiently for God; that you will know that God will answer you; and that you will see God’s answer to your prayers.
