Psalm 122:6 Pray For God’s Chosen

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you.” Psalm 122:6

Throughout the world there are many different cities and nations that struggle with battles and wars. Every city also has its own challenges, dangers and triumphs. Very few, however, have made the international scene as much as Jerusalem, and none have so many that desire to have it destroyed. Many nations and people groups would love to see the downfall and destruction of Jerusalem and Israel. In its entire history Jerusalem has been a city of battles.

David tells the people to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and that all who love Jerusalem may prosper.

God had chosen Israel to be His chosen people out of all the people upon the earth. It was through the Israelites that God chose to make salvation available to every person throughout the earth. Throughout the Bible, God also blesses those who bless Israel and Jerusalem.

Since God has chosen Israel, the world, under the influence of Satan, desires to destroy Israel and Jerusalem at all costs. Even though God had chosen Jerusalem, the people there have chosen to reject God. There is no peace in Jerusalem and there will be no peace in Jerusalem until they surrender their hearts as whole to God.

In the same way that Jerusalem has no peace, most people do not have peace with Christ. God chose every person to be saved, since He sent Jesus into the world to save the world, not just Jerusalem and the Israelites.

Without Jesus, no one has peace. There is no peace with God, nor is there true peace with the world. Believers need to pray that those around them will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus. They must also be a witness of who Jesus so that others may know the peace that comes from God.

In the same way that God has chosen Jerusalem, He has chosen you to be His child. And just as the world is against Jerusalem, the world will be against you, if you have chosen to accept Jesus and follow Him. In this world there may not be physical peace, but there can be peace in the heart between you and God. If you have this peace already, seek and pray that others may also know this peace of God in their own lives.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as Lord and Savior; that you will know the peace that comes with salvation in Jesus; that you will seek to bring others to Jesus; and that you will pray that God’s peace will reign in the hearts of all people.
