What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me? Psalm 116:12
Being a part of certain organizations or groups can sometimes give a person special benefits. One is allowed to have discounts or be able to do various things that others, not a part of the group, will not be able to do or have. In order to have those benefits, often there is something that the person must be willing to give to be able to be a part of that group and get those desired benefits.
The psalmist asks what he will give to the Lord for all of His benefits he received.
Anything free grabs the attention of most people and desired. The world loves to receive benefits with no personal cost at all and often very little gratitude. Many feel as if they are worthy of what they receive and should even receive more.
There is never enough. Believers, just like the psalmist, have received many benefits from God. Love, peace, protection, comfort, and guidance are just a few of the benefits of following God and believing in Jesus. However, the greatest benefits of believing in Jesus are the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
Every person is worthy of death in the worst way possible for all eternity just for one sin that has been committed. Every person has committed untold number of sins, yet Jesus forgives and removes that guilt.
Now as a believer, one should be willing to give something back to God for those benefits. A few things that a person can give God, who has everything, are one’s whole life, heart, commitment, love, praise, service, time, vows, effort, obedience and everything else in one’s life.
The psalmist said he would pay his vows to God and be His servant. Those are a minimum of what a believer can give God today.
If you stop and think about what benefits you have received from God, it is going to be a lot of things. Every moment of every day God is blessing you in a thousand different ways, beginning with the forgiveness of sin. Now that you have received all of these great benefits you must ask yourself what you can give back to God. Be willing to give God your whole life and everything within it. Dedicate your whole life to God for what He has given you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will recognize all the benefits God has given you; that you will give God your whole life in gratefulness of what He has given you; and that you will be grateful for what God has given you.
