Behold, God is great, and we do not know Him; nor can the number of His years be discovered. Job 36:26
Knowing about someone is different than knowing someone. Most people know about someone famous or some high position, but don’t really know the person. Often this is because the higher-level person does not make himself known to everyone below him. There are too many people for everyone to know the person directly and personally.
The majority of people hold this same view with God, that He cannot be personally known because He is so great.
Elihu correctly states that God is great, but then he goes on to say that they cannot know God nor discover His years.
God is often seen by many people as some great and distant God who is unknowable or unreachable. He had started up the world and then just left and does not want to be bothered.
While it is true that God is great and without His willingness no one can know Him, it is not true that He cannot be known. God makes Himself known throughout the world. He reveals Himself in many different ways and ultimately through Jesus Christ. However, the only way He reveals Himself is when a person seeks Him with the whole heart, soul, mind and strength.
It is for relationship that God created mankind and this world. He wants to be found and known. He wants a daily relationship with each and every man, woman and child on this planet that He created.
Not knowing God leaves one without purpose or meaning in life. One is born, lives and then dies with nothing, if one does not know God in a personal way. With knowing God, there is a lifetime of learning about Him that stretches into all eternity.
There are many people you may know about and some people whom you know directly. While it is good to know people, you first focus should be to know God. Know God as your Savior, Creator, Friend, Strength, Joy, Peace and much more.
Seek God today while He may be found and learn who He is and what He has done and is doing for you. God is seeking that close relationship with you and wants to be with you for all eternity.
Do you know God? Unlike Elihu said, you CAN know God.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God in a personal way; that you seek God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength; and that God will reveal more of Himself to you each day.
