Then David said to God, “I have sinned greatly by doing this. Now, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. I have done a very foolish thing.” 1 Chronicles 21:8
Very few people like to admit that they are wrong. Usually, most people find an excuse as to why they did what they did, blaming it upon someone else or some other circumstance. It is often hoped that the wrong done will just get swept under the rug for forgotten about or ignored. Admitting that one is wrong is often a sign of weakness in the eyes of the world.
David had taken a census of all the people in Israel, something God had forbidden to do. He admits to God that he had sinned greatly and asks for God to remove his guilt.
The world does not see anything wrong with sin, it is just living life on this earth. All that matters is whether it harms someone or not and whether one is happy or not.
Believers, however, are to live by God’s holy standards at all times. Doing anything against God is a sin. Sadly, many believers look at many sins as small and insignificant. Then they try to excuse the sin away by blaming others as to why they did what they did.
Every sin against God is deserving of death and is extremely a foolish thing to do. It is not something small, but a great thing to sin against God. Regardless of anything a person does, there is no greater wrong than sinning against God.
Any believer who knows God will be willing to seek His forgiveness. One will know that God is loving and merciful and ready to forgive when sin is admitted. Jesus was sent to remove sin, not condemn people.
You will have times in which you will do something foolish and sin against God. Do not allow yourself to shift blame to someone else but own up to what you did. Do not try to cover up your sin, hoping it will just go away.
Every sin you do is very foolish and is deserving of death, but God is ready to forgive you.
As soon as you realize you have sinned against God, go to Him and admit what you did wrong. Turn from the sinful way. Then accept His forgiveness and mercy upon your life.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear the Holy Spirit point out when you have sinned against God; that you will seek God’s mercy and forgiveness; that you will see how foolish it is to sin against God; and that you will live a holy life before God that Jesus has provided for you.
