For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king. 1 Samuel 15:23
Throughout history people have rebelled at times against someone or something that they did not like. Often times it was a manner of attempt to change the situation to their own way of thinking.
Pride of self rises up making people think that their own way is the best way, causing them to reject the commands or rules of those in leadership.
Samuel tells Saul that rebellion is like divination and arrogance is like idolatry. Saul had rejected God’s word, so God was rejecting him as king.
The world is very quick to show rebellion and arrogance, but believers will very seldom admit to showing rebellion and arrogance in their own lives. Most believers recognize that rebellion and arrogance are things that one should not have in their lives. Yet, many believers have both.
Many believers are very quick to reject obeying God’s word in their lives. They will often choose to do things their own way, rather than the way God has commanded in His Word. This is done out of fear of what may happen or out of pride.
God expects immediate and full obedience to His commands that He gives. His commands are not suggestions that may or may not be followed.
Rebelling against God’s word is the same as seeking guidance from a false god. Arrogance and pride are putting one’s self on the throne as God. He will reject anyone who is rebelling against Him and is filled with arrogance. Both go against the basic principle that God is God and is in absolute control of all.
God is the highest authority, not the believer or individual person, and is to be obeyed.
There are commands that God has given you to obey. Some are in the bible, others are what has been told to you specifically. Do not allow yourself to be like the world and filled with rebellion and arrogance. Do not give God a reason to have to reject you.
Obey God’s word and allow Him to be on the throne of your life, the greatest authority. He has a plan to build you up and make you prosper if you will not seek divination elsewhere or worship some idol.
Will God have to reject you?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will not rebel against the commands of God; that you will seek God’s direction in your life; that you will not follow the ways of idolizing others or self as the world does; and that God will not have to reject you for any reason.
